Adult Workshop

The purpose of adult education is to augment the primary ministry of Growth Groups by training adults for effective ministry in the church, community and family. Adult education will use the unique teaching gifts of individuals in the church to address three foundational areas of the Christian life: the heart (discipleship), the hands (service), and the head (doctrine). We have two tracks within adult education.

The Church On Its Knees (Again)
Philippians 4:6 says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Join us during our adult workshop hour to pray for each other, our church, and our community. The class will meet in the "office classroom" at the front of the building on the second floor. For questions contact Dave Kieffer at 549-3169.

Foundations 102 "The Service and Power of the Church"
What has God called His Church to be? Some "word pictures" the Bible uses to describe the Church are -- The Body of Christ, The Salt of the Earth, The Light to the Nations, The Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. . . . The church is part of God's revelation. Dr. Clowney says, "If (the church) is to stand against the gates of hell, it must know its own divine character, its bond to Jesus, and the 'Holy Spiritual' power of its calling. It must be more than 'seeker-friendly'; it must be 'seeker-sent'". This class is designed for fellow strugglers who seek to give Christ's calling to be "the church" its due priority in their lives. As with all the new "Foundation Classes" regular attendance is expected and take home assignments will be included. Those desiring to participate may sign up on the sheet provided on the counter in the lobby. The class will run 6 weeks starting February 10 and meet in the office classroom. For questions contact Bruce Schwarz at 673-7696.
April 6 - May 4
God and The Body
God delighted to make us physical and not just spiritual beings. What does the Bible say about our bodies? How does the physical affect the spiritual and vice versa? What does it mean to glorify God with my body? How can I grow as a faithful steward of the body God has given me? What happens when we succumb to various idols related to our physical bodies. Time permitting we will touch on such topics such as healthy eating, exercise, body image, and cultural/media pressures and stereotypes. For questions contact Dave or Martha (Marty) Kieffer at 549-3169. The class will meet in the office classroom.
April 6 - May 25

May 18- June 29 (6 weeks)
My Favorite Psalm
Large sections of the Bible are poetry. Why did God give us so much of His Word in poetry? Could it be that poetry captivates our attention. We read it and realize that we are not alone. Others have struggled like us. Others have had similar experiences, fascinations, doubts and fears. We can learn a lot from those who process their experiences according to God's truth, as the writers of the Psalms do. Join us in a community building experience as you hear several fellow church members give their story when they share about their favorite Psalm. For questions contact Paul Trask at 632-2115. The class will meet in the sanctuary. No class on Father’s Day [6/15].
August 10 -- September 7 (5 wks)
Behind the Music
The music industry is booming. CDs, MP3s and ipods continue sell like hot cakes. Music is beautiful and powerful. It touches the human soul and helps to shape it. Join us as we learn to evaluate music through a Biblically based, historically informed and culturally relevant lens. Get equipped to connect with people through music for the sake of the gospel.
For questions contact Earl Crown at 632-1692.

The Blues, The Bible, and Prayer
Do you struggle with feeling blue? Join us as we discover more about the God who bears our burdens and is well acquainted with sorrows. Speaking of the Messiah, Isaiah writes, "He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. . ." (53:3) Experience how our God pours out His peace in unexpected and surprising ways, when we have hearts to receive it. See how He truly can give a "peace that transcends understanding" (Phil 4:7). Because we believe that pray is healing, significant portions of class time will be devoted to praying for one another. No class on 11/30. For questions contact Paul Trask at 632-2115.
